Portals are not region specific, so any portal from any area of the globe will work on any system, but the games from last generation (Xbox 360, PS3, Wii & 3DS) are and thus must be from the same region as your console (USA, EU or Asia). For the best results place your characters near the edge of the portal as this reduces what is believed to be loss of gain in the antenna suffered by using an older portal. Portals can sometimes be forwards compatible (specifically Spyro's adventure portals work for the Giants game, and most 3DS portals are full compatible -as mentioned above-) however, there is often a loss of speed when using the older portals. leaving a trap in the Trap Team portal when using that portal to start up Spyro's Adventure).
